Introduction

The International Open University is the educational arm of “GOLGOTHAS”, which is a Greek Non-Governmental organisation registered and Licensed by the Government of Greece. Golgothas is affiliated to the Department of International Cooperation and Development (Hellenic AID) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Greece. The International Open University (Golgothas) is affiliated to, and has bilateral cooperation agreement with the Agricultural University of Athens, Greece, which is owned by the Government of the Hellenic Republic. The Agreement among other privileges, enables the two Institutions to exchange students, academic staff members, researchers and administrative personnel, including, training programs, seminars, conferences and academic meetings.

Historical Background

“GOLGOTHAS” was established in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1975 and has the following aims and objectives – 1. To assist needy and developing countries in the areas of Social and Economic development, Education, Human Rights, Natural and Alternative Medicines, Agriculture Science and Technology. 2. To fight poverty and create jobs for youths and unemployed people through gainful skills and professional training. 3. To promote spiritual development of people and enhance family peace and cohesion by teaching, propagating and preaching the word of God. 4. To promote World Peace and Human Rights by collaborating with the United Nations and its relevant agencies.

 

 

Scope of Operations:

The main area of emphasis and operation is AFRICA and the DEVELOPING COUNTRIES.
The International Open University (IOU)
Since 1980,Golgothas has been pursuing her aims and objectives through various projects and educational programmes. The International Open University program was specifically designed to give the youths, the working class, busy and less advantaged people of Africa and the developing countries, the opportunity to have an open access to education. The program was designed to encourage professionals and working class people to have an opportunity to acquire formal and non formal education in a less stressful manner, through the distance learning system. Thousands of people have benefited from this program and many more are yet to benefit, because the relevance and advantages of this system of learning are becoming clearer and acceptable in the modern busy world.
Modes Of Study
The International Open University uses the following modes for instructions:

  1. Study centers where the students have the opportunity to interact with the facilitators / lecturers / course coordinators, centre managers, and fellow students.
  2. Electronic transmission of courses in multimedia eg: E-mail, graphics, video, voice, data, terrestrial and Vsat communication systems.
  3. Postal system and telephone services.
  4. Academic supervisors and counselors.

Administrative Office:
The Registered Office of Golgothas is located at No. 39 Koleti, Thessaloniki, Greece. The office for Africa and the developing countries is located at No 6 Calvary Foundation Street, Enugu, Nigeria.

The Calvary Foundation International “GOLGOTHAS”, signed a bilateral cooperation agreement with the Federal Government of Nigeria in April 2011 and part of the agreement is to empower Nigerians through capacity training, short term courses, skills training and developmental studies.
The establishment of this Center therefore is in fulfillment of the agreement between the Federal Government of Nigeria and Golgothas,Greece.
Management:
The Center is administered by a Management Committee headed by a Director. There is a Special Advisory Board made up of experts and specialists who render expert advice whenever necessary.

Affiliation:
The Center, being an arm of Golgothas, is affiliated to the International Open University, Greece and to all the other Tertiary Education Institutions owned by or related to the organization.
